PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery with low price, high energy density, and long cycle life by using a specific compound obtained by replacing part of nickel of LiNiO2 with other element as a positive active material. SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery has a positive electrode, a negative electrode capable of reversely absorbing/releasing lithium, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode contains a compound represented by LiX Ni1- Y MY O2+ Z. In the formula, M is at least one element selected from the group comprising Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba, X is 0.05<=X<=1.1, Y is 0.01<Y<=0.3, and Z is -0.3<=Z<=0.1. |
