PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure stable operation against fluctuation in load when the beam current in a traveling wave tube is turned on/off in a step-up/step-down converter that supplies high voltage for the traveling wave tube, simplify a high- voltage circuit, and enhance the efficiency of power supply. SOLUTION: The title step-up/step-down converter consists of an auxiliary converter 14 that is kept in operation and a main converter 1 that is operated only when a beam current of a traveling wave tube is on turned on. The operation of the main converter 1 is linked with an anode on/off circuit 7. When a beam current is off, only the auxiliary converter 14 is used to supply a light load with power; when a beam current is on, the main converter 1 is power-OR- connected with the auxiliary converter 14. This makes it possible to supply power corresponding to a steady load, allot power for the load to the two converters, main and auxiliary, and limit the range of operation required of each converter. In addition, since no light load operation exist, it is unnecessary to take measures on the high-voltage side to prevent extraordinary increase in output voltage. |
