PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve picture quality and to perform the effective use of a device without making the structure of an imaging device complicated and also without making a clock frequency high. SOLUTION: In this device, a first system having high picture quality reading out the picture signal of odd numbered lines in a next period and moreover reading out the picture of even numbered lines in a next period as to the picture obtained with a single exposure in the period of 1/60sec. in a CCD 14 and a second system alternately reading out an odd numbered field signal and an even numbered field signal according to exposures to be successively performed are provided and the first system is executed in a first CCD driving circuit 24A and the second system is executed in a second CCD driving circuit 24B and, for example, the first system is used for still pictures and the second system is used for moving pictures. Moreover, in the forming of the picture of the first system, a shutter 19 interrupting an incident light so that a new signal accumulation is not performed to the CCD 14 in a prescribed period when the picture signal is read out is provided in a light source device, etc. Thus, it is made possible to distinguish between the use of the first system having high picture quality and the use of the second system of a conventional practice.
