<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the service with flexibility by converting a signal outputted from a cross connect section into a fixed length cell and supporting the fixed length cell sent to a subordinate communication network so as to allow the multiplexer to have provision for the fixed length cell. SOLUTION: Line interface sections 5, 10 convert an OC-3 signal received from an active system optical fiber and a standby system optical fiber into an STS-1 signal and it is given to a cross connector section 9. Then a signal with a preset time slot is extracted among the received signals and a signal termination section 8a converts the signal into a fixed length cell depending on each communication protocol. Interface sections 6-8 send the fixed length cell to a subordinate communication network. An optical fiber is used as a transmission line and when an input section converts the optical signal into an electric signal of an STS level, after mapping the fixed length cell to the STS-1, the result is electrooptically converted and the converted signal is sent to the optical fiber.</p> |
