摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a measuring method in which the anchoring energy in the azimuth direction of a liquid-crystal element is measured by a method wherein the anchoring energy at an azimuth angle is computed by the twist angle of a TN liquid-crystal cell so as to be found. SOLUTION: First, an angleψP which is formed by a polarizer 23 and by an analyzer 25 is set properly, and a TN liquid-crystal cell 24 is turned. Then, the analyzer 25 is turned to the same direction at twice the speed of the cell 24. Then, a phase-difference plate 27 is inserted. Whenever the cell 24 is turned little by little, a twist angleϕt is found by a theoretical expression on the basis of an angleψ00 (an angle of rotation which makes a transmittance T minimum) obtained by scanning the analyzer 25, an angleψP (1), an angleψ0 (1) (angles of rotation of the analyzer by which the transmittance T detected by a photodetector 26 is made minimum) and angleψP (2), an angleψ0 (2) (an angleψP and an angleψ0 by which the transmittance T is made minimum). The anchoring energy Aϕin the azimuth direction of the cell 24 is found by the twist angleϕt .
