PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correctly detect torque of an induction motor operated in connection with commercial power supply. SOLUTION: A current transformer 5 and a current detector 6 detect motor primary current vector 13, and a voltage detector 7 detects motor terminal voltage vector V1 . A magnetic flux calculating circuit 11 calculates primary magnetic flux vectorΦ1 of an induction motor 4 from these detected values and a motor constant. A torque calculating circuit 12 calculates a vector product of the primary magnetic flux vectorΦ1 calculated by the magnetic flux calculating circuit 11 and the motor primary current vector I1 , that is, generation torqueτ.
