PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a color filter by which a color filter having enough light-shielding property, smooth surface and high display quality can be obtd. even when a resin black matrix is used. SOLUTION: In this production method of a color filter, a light-shielding layer is formed on a transparent substrate through the following processes. A photosensitive black resin compsn. prepared by dispersing a light-shielding pigment in a photosensitive resin which develops adhesion property by irradiation of UV rays is uniformly applied on a temporary base body 1. Then the photosensitive black resin compsn. side of the temporary base body 1 is tightly stuck to a transparent substrate on which a desired color pattern is formed. The compsn. is irradiated with UV rays through the back surface of the transparent substrate to develop adhesion property only in the photosensitive black resin compsn. in the space among the color pattern. Then the black resin compsn. on the temporary base body and on the color pattern is peeled.
