A device (2) for holding a charge in a missile comprises a pressurised cylinder (5) with a base (12), a piston (7) inside the cylinder and liquid propellant (9) between the inside of the piston and the cylinder base. The cylinder base faces outwards and a channel (15) for spraying out propellant passes through it. When the missile is being fired gases force the piston to expel the propellant through spray channels into the ignition region of the gun barrel.
