<p>The invention relates to an integrated system for the propulsion and steering of a ship. The system consists of a variable pitch or fixed propeller (1), a torpedo-shaped body (2) having a substantially greater diameter than the propeller hub (6) and a semi-balanced (4) or unbalanced horn rudder (10) which may or may not have rudder flaps. The torpedo (2) is suspended in the rudder horn (3), and cannot be swung relative to the ship. The outer form of the torpedo is such that, together with the specially designed propeller hub, it forms an optimised streamlined rotary body. All components in the system interact hydrodynamically and are optimised as a combined unit with a view to propulsion efficiency and manoeuvrability.</p> |
