A distributing mechanism (14) for depositing wet processed fabric in rope-form (10) in a container (11). A tubular distributing guide (15) is mounted for pivoting movement on a distributing ring (31) rotatable about a vertical axis. Ribbed support rollers (30) on the distributing ring (31) are received in annular grooves (28) in a concentric support ring (22), such that the distributing ring (31) is mounted by the support ring (22), but is rotatable with respect thereto. The support ring (22) itself is supported for rotation about a vertical axis. Both rings (22, 31) are driven by a common external drive motor (60), but at slightly different rotational speeds. A circular cam track (40), formed in the supporting ring (22), cooperates with a cam follower wheel (38) carried by the distributing guide (15). As the distributing (31) and supporting rings (22) are rotated, the relative motion therebetween results in the follower wheel (38) moving along the cam track (40), varying the angle at which the distributing guide (15) is disposed, whereby fabric (10) is deposited in neat, uniform layers within the container (11), for relatively easy and tension-free removal at a later time for subsequent processing.
