Underground structures sealing to prevent water ingress, esp. into tunnels

This method seals structural shells by blocking water ingress. Bands (1) are applied to the surface of the structure, and contain a plastic (4) capable of hydrophilic absorption, which seals against moisture by swelling. Pref the surfaces are fully sealed by the bands. They are glued on to the foundation of the structure, as a grid of strips. Pref. the bands are glued centrally between the strips, with adjacent edges. A polyurethane plastic is used in bands and strips. The plastic layer has a cell structure able to absorb and release water. The foundation is cleaned before application. With changes in moisture content, isotropic swelling and shrinkage take place. Adhesion takes place to both the plastic and the foundation. Also claimed is a device to carry out such a procedure.
