A centrifugal separator (10) of the type for separating particulate matter from a whirling liquid stream, in which the centrifugal separator has an improved quiescent collection chamber (30). A plurality of vertical baffles (80, 82) extend downwardly into the centrifugal separator's collection chamber (30), thereby reducing turbulence and circular flow of the solid-laden liquid introduced into the centrifugal separator and also reducing re-entrainment of solids into the separation chamber of the centrifugal separator. A conduit (50) may also extend from the quiescent region (46) above the centrifugal separator's spin plate (20) to a region immediately above the spin plate, thus enabling removal of clarified liquid from the collection chamber's quiescent region (46). |
