Novel cage molecules have the cage in the form of a cube, with a phthalocyanine unit on each of the faces. The linkage is formed on the phenyl rings carrying the nitrile gps. of the PC at the corners of the cube by methylene gps., alkyl chains, dialkoxy gps. (-O-R-O-) or heteroatoms (e.g. N, P, O or S). (I) are designated 'phthalocuberenes'.
