Writing data and programs into memory in vehicle controller for controlling various functions, e.g. ABS, airbag, fuel injection and ignition setting

The method involves starting a test interval of defined length and feeding a starting signal to the controller via an interface, following which the controller returns a response signal via he interface. An activation signal is fed to the controller via the interface. The controller interrupts the signal entry and output via the interface if the activation signal is not received within the test interval, esp. within 10 ms of the start of the test interval. An encoded security signal is fed to the controller via the interface if the signal exchange is not interrupted. The controller compares this with a stored reference signal and triggers the writing of data into the memory if they coincide.
