The steering lock (antitheft device) for a motor vehicle comprising a member for locking the bolt (22) mounted pivotally in a casing (10) integral with a steering column, the bolt being pivoted along a direction perpendicular to the axis of a lock assembly (12) fitted with a control cam equipped with a pull element (18), and control means capable of moving the bolt (22) from a locking position to an unlocking position. The control means consists of a linkage element or slide (34) integral with the pull element (18) and movable parallel to the axis of the lock assembly (12).
