PURPOSE:To enhance high temperature resistance and catalytic activity, by subjecting smectite clay layer mineral to a metal ion-exchange and baking this mineral to form a hydrogenation reaction catalyst containing the same. CONSTITUTION:At least one member of smectite clay layer mineral selected from saponite and montmorinite is subjected to Metal ion-exchange and then baked to form a catalyst for dehydrogenation reaction containing the smectite clay layer mineral. The ions of not less than one metal selected from the III b group, the VI a group and the VII ion group of the periodic law are suitable as the metal ions for use in the ion exchange, preferably at the baking temperature of not more than 650 deg.C. The hydrogenation reaction, for example, of an alkyl aromatic compound is effected using this dehydrogenation reaction catalyst. |
