The solid golf ball of the present invention comprises a solid core and a cover covering the core, wherein the core is preferably formed from a rubber composition comprising a polybutadiene rubber having a cis-1,4-structure content of at least 40% and either an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a metal salt thereof or both. The cover has a thickness of from 1 to 4mm, a Shore D hardness of from 55 to 64 and has 300 to 450 dimples having a diameter of 2 to 5 mm. The dimples have a dimple area proportion of from 62 to 78 % and a total dimple volume of from 260 to 345 mm 3 . |
