Steel is produced by semi-refining crude iron e.g. containing 0.8 to 4% P in a ladle or tapping crucible by oxygen blowing, under-pouring the semi-refined iron to separate it from the slag and then refining it together with molten scrap in an open hearth e.g. Siemens-Martin furnace. Semi-refining may be by a lime dust/oxygen top blowing method to produce an iron containing 0.8-2.5% C, 0-0.3% Mn, 0.1-0.4% P, balance Fe.
|
