Isolated polynucleotide molecules encoding mammalian Ship or fragments thereof are provided. The isolated polynucleotide molecules can be used in methods for producing recombinant Ship or biologically active fragments thereof or within methods of diagnosis. Ship polynucleotides of the invention can be used in screens for identifying therapeutic compounds capable of inhibiting or enhancing expression of Ship. Antibodies to Ship can be used to identify mutant Ship molecules in diagnostic methods for Ship-associated diseases such as cancer.
