The rolls (2) of a hot rolling mill are supported in bearings (6) which are cooled by water jets. The water jets are applied to each end of the roll in a region shielded by a fixed cowl (20). Between the water jets and the roll main body, in each instance there is a collar (36) integral with the roll, and the side (38) of the collar facing the main body tapers radially inwardly towards the main body. The cowl preferably terminates at a spacing from the main body, intermediate the axial extent of said tapering side of the collar. By these means, it is possible to hinder or prevent cooling water escaping from the ends of the roll to reach the main body of the roll. <IMAGE> |
