PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material hardly generating abrasion in a thermal head, excellent in sticking resistance and not generating electrical corrosion in the thermal head. SOLUTION: A thermal recording material is obtained by successively laminating a thermal recording layer based on a colorless or light colored leuco dye and a coupler allowing the leuco dye to develop a color at a time of heating, an intermediate layer based on a water-soluble resin or a water dispersible resin and a top layer formed by dispersing spherical silicone pigment in a resin on at least the single surface of a support. The thickness (t) of the top layer is 0.6-0.4μm and the average particle size d(μm) of spherical silicone pigment satisfies the relation of 1.1<=d/t<=1.4 to the thickness (t) of the top layer.
