PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording material reducing friction and rule shift in thermal recording machinery using a serial printing system and excellent in developed color density and head matching. SOLUTION: In a thermal recording material wherein a thermal color forming layer based on a leuco dye and a coupler is laminated on a support and a protective layer based on pigment and a resin is laminated thereon, the pigment in the protective layer is a mixture of pigment of which the particle size is 1.0 times or more the thickness of the protective layer and pigment of which the particle size is below 1.0 times the thickness of the protective layer and the pigment of which the particle size is 1.0 times or more the thickness of the protective layer is org. pigment.
