PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject reagent capable of simply extracting a nucleic acid in a sample in a short time by mixing a protein solubilizing agent such as a guanidine derivative with a carrier such as a polynucleotide and a solubilization promoter such as a compound having SH and OH groups. SOLUTION: This extracting reagent for a nucleic acid is obtained by mixing an extracting reagent for the nucleic acid containing at least 2-6 M (mol/l) protein solubilizing agent comprising a guanidine derivative (e.g. guanidine isothiocyanate) or a thiocyanic acid derivative (e.g. sodium thiocyanate) with 0.01-1000μg/ml carrier comprising a polynucleotide and 0.01-10% solubilization promoter comprising a compound having mercapto group and hydroxyl group (e.g. dithiothreitol) with a sample (e.g. a blood serum), insolubilizing the nucleic acid to be extracted in the sample and then separating the insolubilized nucleic acid with an alcohol. Thereby, the nucleic acid in the sample, etc., used for amplification, etc., according to a polymerase chain reaction(PCR) of the nucleic acid is simply obtained in a short time.
