PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back and side direction monitor device for a vehicle which can recognize other vehicles correctly even when running in the dark, such as in the night or in a tunnel. SOLUTION: This device has an imaging means 11 which images back and side direction of a vehicle, and an optical flow detection means 31a which detects the movement of a point, which is the identical point in two pictures shifted in predetermined time, in the direction diverging from an infinite distant point as an optical flow, and monitors the relative relation between another and the vehicle. Then, the device has driving direction detection means 21, 23 which detect a driving direction of the vehicle, a driving distance detection means 22 which detects a driving distance of the vehicle, and an infinite distant point changing means 31b which calculates an amount of movement of the vehicle based on the information of the driving direction from the driving direction detection means 21, 23 and the information of the driving distance from the driving distance detection means 22 and subsequently changes the position of the infinite distant point based on the amount of movement. |
