PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an adhesive composition composed of a specific hydrophilic acrylic copolymer, excellent in tack, adhesion and cohesion, having improved dispersibility in an aqueous solvent and enabling the smooth regeneration of adhesive-supporting pulp, etc. SOLUTION: This adhesive composition contains a hydrophilic acrylic copolymer obtained by copolymerizing (A) 50-95wt.% of a monomer consisting of a 4-12C alkyl ester of a (meth)acrylic acid, (B) 0-5wt.% of a 3-9Cα,β-unsaturated mono- or di-carboxylic acid, (C) 3-30wt.% of a water soluble monomer other than the component B (e.g. a compound of the formula R<1> is H or methyl; X<1> is a group of the formula CO(A<1> O)n Y<1> [A<1> is a 2-3C (branched) alkylene; Y<1> is H, a 1-4C (branched) alkylene, etc.; (n)=2-100], a group of the formula COOA<2> Y<2> [A<2> is an (OH-substituted) 1-18C (branched) alkylene, Y<2> is a group of the formula SO=Z<1> (Z<1> is H<+> , an alkali metal ion, etc.) etc.], etc.}) and (D) 0-30wt.% of another monomer which is copolymerizable with the components A to C, wherein the total of the components A to D is 100%.
