PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new specific bisphosphite rhodium complex catalyzing a reaction to produce an aldehyde from an olefinic compound, carbon monoxide and hydrogen in high reactivity and selectivity without interposing an induction period. SOLUTION: This new bisphosphite compound is expressed by the formula I L is a group of the formula II [W is a (substituted)bivalent arylene; X is O; L' is a (substituted)alkylene or an alkenylene; R<1> to R<4> are each a (substituted)alkyl, a (substituted)aryl, a (substituted)alicyclic group, etc.; R<1> and R<2> or R<3> and R<4> may together bond to form a ring]}. It is useful e.g. as a catalyst for a hydroformylation reaction to produce an aldehyde from an olefinic compound, carbon monoxide and hydrogen in high reactivity and selectivity absolutely without interposing an induction period. The complex can be produced by reacting a bisphosphite compound of the formula II with an Rb compound of the formula, [Rb(OAc)(COD)]2 (Ac is acetyl; COD is 1,5- cyclooctadiene) in the presence of water gas. |
