PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent excess sintering at high temp. and to suppress damages due to structural spalling to the min. degree by adding a metal powder containing aluminum and a resin containing carbon to magnesia noncalcined brick so as to suppress permeation of slag into the brick and to give proper residual expanding property. SOLUTION: This magnesia-based noncalcined brick consists of 0.5-10wt.% metal powder (A) containing aluminum, a resin (B) containing carbon by 0.5-3wt.% expressed in terms of fixed carbon amt., and the balance refractory material (C) essentially comprising magnesia. The component (A) may be single aluminum or a mixed powder of aluminum with Si, Mg, Ca or alloys of these metals and aluminum. The resin used for the component (B) is such as phenol resin. The component (C) is, for example, electrically fused magnesia clinker and containing >=50wt.% MgO. The brick is produced by weighing source material with controlled particle size, mixing the source material and press forming and heat treating at <=600 deg.C. |
