PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition for a sheet of paper capable of providing a higher quality of the coated paper such as impartment of a high level of ink receptivity and water resistance to the paper. SOLUTION: This coating composition for a sheet of paper comprises the following respective components (I) to (III): (I) a pigment, (II) an aqueous binder and (III) a resin component which is a mixture or a reactional product of (A) a water-soluble resin obtained by reacting at least three components of (a) an amine selected from an alkylenediamine and a polyalkylene-polyamine, (b) ureas and (c) a compound selected from aldehydes, epihalohydrins andα,γ- dihalo-β-hydrins with (B) an aminonitrile compound prepared by reacting two components of (x) anα,β-unsaturated nitrile compound with (y) a primary or a secondary amino compound.
