A tape copy system comprises a reproduction deck(10) including an amplifying unit(12) and a demodulation unit(14), and a recording deck, including a separation/decision unit(22), a demodulation unit(24) and an amplifying unit(26). Besides, the reproduction deck(10) has a reproduction head(1) while a recording deck(20) has a recording head(2). The separation/decision unit(22) makes a judgement on the copy mode whether the cognitive information which is located at the front of the image signal data is the image data for one program or for two programs. When it is for two programs, the image data may be separated, based on the cognitive information. Furthermore, if it is judged that the detach/decision unit(22) is image data for one program, the corresponding image data will be transferred to the demodulation part connected to the output part.
