PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent document setting errors by providing a document detecting device capable of detecting the size and set condition (movement, etc.) of a document placed on a document stand. SOLUTION: This document detecting device is provided with an angle detecting means 7 for detecting the angle by which a document holding plate 6 pressing a document 5 on a document stand 4 is closed, with a detecting means 1 for detecting a document end position and with a control means 10. The detecting means 1 is constituted of an illumination means 2, having a light emitting part placed below the document stand 4 and a lens provided at the front of the light emitting part, and emitting the light from the light emitting part toward the document stand 4 while converting the light into a parallel beam by means of the lens, and of a light receiving means 3 comprising one lens for receiving the light reflected from the document 5 illuminated by the illumination means 2 and one photocell. The control means 10 operates the detecting means 1 when the angle by which the document holding plate 6 is closed comes into a predetermined area, a signal from the angle detecting means 7 and detects position and size of the document 5 by comparing a signal output from the detecting means 1 with contents prestored in a storage means. |
