摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the blank period after discharge and to utilize the after glow after discharge to improve luminance by specifying the pulse width of maintenance pulses which are inphase. SOLUTION: A waveform 21 indicates the voltage waveform of the maintenance pulse 22 to be impressed on a common X electrode which is the row electrode of the odd place. The waveform 21 is first potential 24 before the start of the discharge and the maintenance pulse 22 is third potential 23 higher than the first potential. On the other hand, a waveform 25 indicates the voltage waveform of the maintenance pulse 26 to be impressed on the Yi electrode (i=2, 4...n) among the independent row Y2, Y4...Yn electrodes which are the row electrode of the even place. The waveform 25 is the second potential 27 before the start of discharge and the maintenance pulse 26 is the fourth potential 28 lower than the second potential. The discharge start voltages by the homeomorphic maintenance pulses 22, 26 are lowest in the pulse width of a range of 0.7 to 3μsec and the driving with the low voltage is made possible. Then, the width 29 of the pulses is 0.7 to 3μsec.
