PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an endoscope which has wide irradiation area and can uniformly irradiate the entire irradiation area with light of a wavelength composition close to natural light without using any component for diffusion by arranging a plurality of light guides concentrically around an image pickup device and providing an outward tapered surface atop of the light guides. SOLUTION: A CCD element 2 is arranged having its center aligned with the axis (m) of a tube 1 at a position in the tube where light entering an objective 5 is imaged. An optical fiber 3 is arranged in contact with the inner periphery of the tube 1 along the length while wound many times covering the outside of the CCD element 2 concentrically. The tip 3a of this optical fiber 3 is polished in a tapered shape so that its cut faces to the outside of the tube 1. Consequently, light which reaches the optical fiber tip 3 from a light source through the optical fiber 3 is diffused by the tapered tip 3a to obtain a large irradiation angleα. Therefore, no component for diffusion is used and the cost is lowered.
