Field emission display comprising FEC matrices and conical emitters

The display matrices each have strips of cathode wire (102) formed in a cathode region (109) on a cathode substrate (101). The strips have cut out sections and electrodes form islands (107) in the cut out sections. The resistive layers are formed on the strips, the cut out sections and the islands and the emitter cones are formed above the islands. The separation of the islands from the cut section depends on its position in the cathode region which in the case of colour displays depends on the corresponding coloured phosphor associated with anode strips on the cathode substrate.
