The automobile opening roof structure comprises an external sheet metal roof (1) having a support surface which, with a movable panel (7), seals the opening roof. A windscreen (2), fixed to the metal roof, has fixed under it a windscreen opening cross member (3) and a reinforcing cross member (4) belonging to the roof reinforcing frame. The reinforcing frame cross member entirely superposes the windscreen opening cross member and is placed between it and the sheet metal roof. The windscreen opening cross member, which is chute shaped, houses most of the width of the reinforcing frame cross member. The chute formed by the upwards opening cross member has side walls between which extends the base of the frame cross member.
