PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate the desorption of an adsorbed residual molecule in an image display device by supplying power to a conductive wire extended in a vacuum vessel, and desorbing and discharging the adsorbed molecule via the irradiation of electrons to the inner wall of the vacuum vessel. SOLUTION: Power is fed under the application of voltage to a linear thermal electron source 105 mounted on a jig 106 as a source for forming a linear thermal electron source and cold cathode electron source type residual molecule desorption acceleration device and, then, thermal electron generated from the linear thermal electron source 105 are accelerated and caused to collide with a face plate 101 and a rear plate 103 with sufficient kinetic energy. Adsorbed molecule are thereby desorbed. As a result, the desorption of adsorbed residual molecule in a flat image display device can be facilitated without any high temperature baking at the time of exhausting the device and without any harm to an electron emission element for image display. At the same time, a degassing volume within the image display device can be reduced. |
