<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent reproduced image by processing compressed data representing color information and compressed data representing character information and combining their advantages so as to reduce considerably the storage capacity. SOLUTION: Original image data 2 are data obtained by reading an original image consisting of a mixture of a color photograph and color characters with an image scanner or the like and converted into information processed by the image processing system. Color information data 2 are compressed data by a thinning process, etc., with the original image data 2. Character shape information data 4 are color information data 2 obtained by thresholding the original image data 2. Color information data 3 and character form data 3 are compressed into color information compression data 5 and character information compression data 6 by the irreversible JPEG system and the reversible JBIG system and stored in a nonvolatile memory. When production of a reproduced image 10 is requested, the storage data in the memory are respectively expanded to obtain color information expansion data 7 and character information expansion data 8. They are composited and displayed to obtain a reproduced image 10.</p> |
