The arm (70) turns the splined shaft (26) which runs in the support (66) and housing (30) and drives the wiper arm assembly (20). The peg (72) on the arms is inserted in the toothed wheel (76). The wheel engages internal teeth (78-80) in the housing (30) and a toothed segment (84) on the shaft (86). A ball (91) inserted in the toothed segment runs on the profiled ring (92). The shaft (86) is raised and lowered, pushing on the lever (52) to vary the tension in the spring (38) and vary the force on the wiper arm and blade. When the blade is parked, the ball drops into a recess, reducing spring tension.
