摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spatial optical modulation element which has high resolution, is excellent in assigning intensity levels and is formed by using liquid crystals. SOLUTION: This spatial optical modulation element has a constitution obtd. by holding the liquid crystals between a first transparent insulating substrate having transparent conductive films and a second transparent insulating substrate 101 having a transparent conductive film 102, a photoconductive layer 103 and metallic mirrors 105 divided in correspondence to display pixels. The photoconductive layer 103a of the metallic mirror parts consists of amorphous silicon and the photoconductive layer 103b in the spacing between the metallic mirrors consists of polycrystalline silicon. As a result, the crosstalks between adjacent pits is prevented without forming special light shielding films.
