Coding table device for HDTV variable length decoder

The device includes a coefficient table (27) and a masking circuit (29). A drum shifter (25) receives an input signal consisting of a flow of bits. The bits are separated by the shifter into variable length codes. The codes are transmitted to the table of coefficients. Each code consists of a sign bit and a word. The sign bit of each code is ignored and only the word part is used in the coefficient table. The masking circuit has two inputs, its function being to extract all the sign bits.
