The device monitors the lamps by the optic fibre which is placed with one end facing the light output from the lamp and the other end attached to the control panel of the vehicle. A part of the light emitted from the lamp is carried by the optic fibre to form a visible display on the control panel. The control panel end of the optic fibre can be fitted with a filter that alters the colour of the light to correspond to the externally visible colour of the lamp, for example red for braking lights. The optic fibres may be set up with terminations to allow connection into light guide system and easy removal for maintenance.
