The machine consists of a carousel or conveyor (2) which can move a predetermined number of pots or containers (3) simultaneously and a step at a time. The conveyor moves the containers between a feed zone (4) for the empty containers and a discharge zone (5) for the filled ones. Between the zones, the containers pass through posts (5,6,8) in which they are filled with substrate. Holes are made in the substrate for the plants to be inserted. The plants are picked up and transferred to the new containers by a series of grippers (9) mounted on a system which enables them to move between two positions. One position is above the plants and the other above the new containers. The grippers move automatically up and down between the two positions and at the same time move apart or together according to the distances between the plants and the new containers.
