PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outer cylinder stripping method and a device by which an outer cylinder of a used NaS battery can be efficiently stripped. SOLUTION: An NaS battery W is rotatably supported around its central axis by a chuck device 3, and an outer cylinder of the NaS battery W is cut in the axial direction and the circumferential direction by a rotary disk type metal saw 1, and a cutting piece is stripped by a stripping claw 10. It is desirable that two places of the outer cylinder of the NaS battery W are simultaneously cut in the circumferential direction by the rotary disk type metal saw 1 having two heads, and the NaS battery of upper and lower two stages is simultaneously cut in the axial direction.
