METHOD FOR ESTIMATING BLOCK DISTORTION OF IMAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate a generated position of block distortion in a decoded image by a block distortion estimate means without calculating the S/N of a block of an original image and a decoded image. SOLUTION: After compressing an original image for each prescribed block, block distortion of the decoded image is estimated. Then a process for estimating respectively the production location of block distortion in the original image and the decoded image is provided. Moreover, the process for specifying the position of block distortion in the decoded image by taking a difference of the general location of block distortion between the original image and the decoded image is provided. The generated location of block distortion specified in this way is displayed in a specific identification color identifying it from other images on a screen.
