The device has a first mounting (24), the height of which with respect to the upper surface of the glass (G) is controlled using the positioner (26). A first drill (D1) fits into a hole (32) in the mounting which terminates in a chamber (34) at the glass surface which is supplied with a flow of cooling water by entry (38) and exit (40) channels. The glass is placed on a frame and has a similar arrangement involving a second drill (D2) beneath it. Drilling of holes from both sides takes place consecutively to form a single hole for the mount. The water flow is adjusted to remove glass debris from the workpiece and frame area without leakage.
