Process and assembly (10) shape a plastically-deformable elongated mass (11) as it passes through a series (1) of pairs of opposing rollers (16, 17,18), each of which is equipped with an assembly (51, 52, 53) to vary the gap (h2, h3, h4) between the rollers, and a variable-speed drive (56, 57, 58) control unit (54). (a) The speed of rotation of the pairs of rollers (16, 17,18) is regulated; (b) each pair of rollers is fitted with a gap-adjustment assembly (51, 52, 53); and (c) the control unit (54) adjusts both the gaps (h2, h3, h4) (by means of the regulating devices (51, 52, 53)) and the roller drive (56, 57, 58) speed.
