An insect trap comprising a housing (111) having an inlet (119) and an outlet, an illumination means (114) adapted to attract insects mounted proximate the inlet (119), and an insect collection means (121) at the outlet, a fan (120) mounted in the housing (111) and adapted to generate an air flow from the inlet (119) to the outlet, and a valve means (124) provided to prevent captured insects from escaping from the insect collection means (121) through the outlet.
