A passage (51) conveys a sheet material through a transfer zone with the sheets fed to the conveyor by two feeders (66, 68) from a cassette (82). The sheets are fed along two passages (86, 96) to the feeders with each passage having an opening/closing member (124, 126). The first of the opening/closing members has an upper portion (142) with an inside wall extending upwards and having a large diameter inside wall (134). An introduction protrusion (148) is provided over the entire width of contact-preventing depressed portions (146) of the upper portion of the inside wall with guide ribs (144) on the upper portion extending to the introduction protrusion.
