In order to detect reject articles and prevent repeated waste, a quality control process is disclosed for use in the production of finished cast shells or core stackings (1). Moulding material is shot by a shooting device (3) into an openable tool (4) and is there allowed to solidify to form a moulding (2) (either a core or shell); the moulding (2) is removed from the opened tool (4) and then manipulated, conveyed and if appropriate finished to form a core stacking (1). The proposed process is characterised in that the mouldings (2) and/or tools (4) are measured without contact in the areas of the shooting device (3) and/or manipulators (5) and/or processing stations (6) and/or the storage areas (7) and/or conveyor lines (8) and the measured values fed into a computer (9), processed as appropriate and compared with stored reference values; and in that the moulding (2) and/or tool (4) is identified as reject or defective if a predeterminable or definable deviation from the reference values is detected.
