A personal cleansing composition comprising: a) at least about one wt.% of soap, and b) a sufficient amount of a compound to provide at least about 0.03 wt.% of a free fatty carboxylic acid, said compound of formula (1), wherein R is hydrogen or CH2COOH, Ra is hydrogen or carboxyl, and Rb is hydrogen or methyl provided that when R is hydrogen, then Ra is carboxyl and when R is CH2COOH then Ra is hydrogen.
