A composition, for instance a cosmetic composition, particularly intended for dyeing keratin fibres, contains one or more substance P antagonists to reduce, if not eliminate, the irritant effects of the colorants and/or pigments and/or colorant precursors used in the dyeing process. The substance P antagonist may form part of the dyeing composition itself, or may be contained in a composition that is applied prior to the application of the dyeing composition.
